We, and the material in this course, has been strongly influenced by Bill Bialek and Rob Phillips. They have done a huge service to the field through their writing of excellent textbooks. A lot of the material in this course has been inspired, or indeed taken, from their collected works. While so often under appreciated, textbooks have such a huge impact on a field, not just to teach people facts around a certain subject, but to demonstrate a different point of view. Bill Bialek and Rob Phillips have done both these things.

 

Additionally, the datasets have all come from labs around the world that have permitted their use for educational purposes.
